One of the major criticisms that people have upon coming to the United States is the quality of food. Especially Europeans, when they come to America, are oftentimes really surprised to learn just how ultra-processed the American diet actually is. But even though most people intuitively understand that processed foods aren’t as good for them as whole foods, up until now, there’s been a real lack of scientific studies to confirm that suspicion. There have been some studies that have linked ultra-processed food to poor health, but there hasn’t been a comprehensive review that can provide a broad assessment of all the evidence in this arena. And so, in order to bridge that gap, researchers conducted a study and recently published it in the pages of the British Medical Journal. It’s titled: Ultra-processed food exposure and adverse health outcomes: an umbrella review of epidemiological meta-analyses. This is the largest peer-reviewed study of its kind. Researchers took 14 different studies that have already been published in the past three years, and they conducted a meta-analysis on them to determine the link between ultra-processed foods and adverse health effects. You might remember how, 2 years ago, the Jan. 6 Select Committee hired a TV producer in order to make really tight, well-edited hearings to release to the public. In total, over the course of 6 months, 10 hearings were broadcast on TV. And one of the most unexpected (and salacious) things to come out of these hearings was the testimony of Ms. Cassidy Hutchinson. At the tail end of the Trump administration, Ms. Hutchinson served as a top aide to Mark Meadows, the White House Chief of Staff. And during her testimony (which took up the entirety of the 6th televised hearing), she made some rather shocking claims about what President Trump did in his SUV on Jan. 6. Among her claims was that President Trump became livid after not being taken to the Capitol—and that, as a result, he lunged at the steering wheel of the vehicle before trying to choke out his own secret service agent. That is the story that the Jan. 6 Select Committee decided to broadcast to the entire world in their televised hearing. Interestingly, however, there was another interview that the Jan. 6 Select Committee conducted behind closed doors that directly refuted what Ms. Hutchinson said. But, for some reason, the transcript of that testimony was not included in the final report of the J6 Committee (much less the televised hearings). However, with the Republicans now in charge of the House, they’re digging through a lot of these previously unpublished interviews. In fact, House Republicans just released their own “Report on the Failures and Politicization of the January 6th Select Committee.” The newly released information reveals that, despite what was said during the televised hearing, President Trump (who was 73 years old at the time) did not fly across the SUV to try and grab the steering wheel. To many people’s surprise, the judge overseeing the Fulton County RICO case ruled Friday that DA Fani Willis would not be disqualified from the case (so long as the man she was having an affair with stepped down). Meaning that in order to remain on the case, all Fani Willis had to do was fire Nathan Wade—after she had already paid him a cool $600,000 in taxpayers’ money. In the 23-page ruling, Judge Scott McAfee did not exactly mince his words. Instead, he wrote that either Willis or Wade would have to go because the entire case now has an “odor of mendacity”—meaning it reeks of untruthfulness. And lo, within hours of the judge’s ruling being made public, Nathan Wade resigned from his position as special prosecutor.
